An arena is a large, enclosed area where the Hunger Games are held. Arenas are designed by the Gamemakers and a new one is built each year. They can hold Gamemaker traps and many have twists to them, in order for the Capitol citizens entertainment. Every arena has a Cornucopia, where the tributes are launched at the beginning of the Games. They have force fields that enclose the arena and bounce tributes back in if they are willing to escape. In few Games, tributes have used the force fields as weapons. The arenas are considered historical landmarks, and at the conclusion of the Games are open tourist locations for the Capitol citizens whereby they could tour the catacombs, watch replays of the Games, visit sights where a death occurred, and even participate in reenactments.
